Well it was brought to my attention by a friend of mine that other people like reading the blog other than Robert when he is deployed. Thanks for the reminder! So now it is a resolution of mine to update it once every week or two at least with our goings gone, whether Robert is home, deployed or TDY. Hopefully this is a resolution I will be able to keep– as opposed to the other ones I have made which are lose weight, spend one on one time with each child every week, practice piano, increase fruits and veggies etc, which somehow life seems to interrupt my ‘being good’ at keeping my resolutions and I kept 0 of mine from last year. Well, like I said, maybe this year I will be better.
Yep that is right, the two boys are in school all day- 8:45-3:25 and I am enjoying just having the girls.
Matt just finished out his first week of Kindergarten with Mrs. Moore. He loves it and is in a class with quite a few other children we know. When I asked him his favorite thing about the class, he told me it was the carpet- it is the same one as was in his Pre-school class last year. Aaahhh, the important things in life 🙂 On Matt’s First Day last week it was about an hour and a half when the parents went with the students. We all got a tour of the school, Matt was chosen as Line Leader and got to hold Timmy the Turtle the class Mascot since Mrs Moore’s class is known as the Terrific Turtles.
Andrew is finishing out his second week of second grade with Mrs. Warnick. He likes being back in school but it has been an adjustment for him. Mrs Warnick is a firm believer in HW and sends home an hour worth each night- a few worksheets, phonics reading aloud (which is not necessary for him, but I want him to know the work is necessary whether or not he feels it is worth his time or not), and reading 25 minutes a night to himself. Since when we walk home we arrive at home roughly at 1600 and dinner is at 1700, Andrew gets virtually no time off for anything fun or to unwind on school days.
So we went on one of our field trips to the aquarium in South Salt Lake a few weeks ago and the kids had a blast and were well behaved and we got some really great shots of the animals there. Evelyn was desperate to pet something since she isn’t big enough to get the rays that Matt and Andrew did. Rora was thrilled to see the fish and just watch them through the glass. This summer we have discovered that she is OK with animals in general but ducks, some birds and fish REALLY capture her attention.
Well, I have had a productive week this week and last. I was able to have a scrap night this last week and got a few pages done and I got a well needed break from the kids on Tuesday and took the time to relax and paint in Evelyn’s room. I have also gotten out the sewing machine to work on a few projects that have been put aside all summer. One is for Matt’s all-day Kindergarten he is required to have a 12″x12″ pillow with his name on it, so I embroidered him one:) I am also making an American quilt and so I have been working on a few parts of that in an effort to get that done before Robert comes home (a lofty goal, but it might happen:) ).
Rora is so fun lately. she is making this kissing/smacking lip sound lately and then she cracks up- she thinks she is so funny (and I agree). She is pulling up to a stand on anything and everything and mostly on mom. While we are glad that she is doing so well, she is also very fast and sometimes when I have to set her down, she pulls to a stand onto me before I can get up to get the phone or whatever I am having to do and then she is upset when I ‘abandon her’ to get something done. She is great though and yesterday she stood unsupported all by her self for 30 seconds!!!She is the funnest and sweetest baby that I remember having (of course she is the only one that is a baby right now so I am likely not remembering the others). outputmvi_7182
Evelyn has started to talk so much more lately and it is getting more understandable all the time. She has also been working on her sign language. She has signs that we all recognize but aren’t the same as official ASL. She loves and misses Robert so much she has started wandering around telling people “Daddy me Handsome, Me Daddy’s Princess.” Here she is with her ‘I Love You’ sign.outputmvi_66041
Well I finally got the house almost back together and needed the break so I had another Scrap night, And while I only made one spread and the title to the one I worked on weeks ago, I felt good and it is always nice to get something done and think you have done well. The Hoodie Towel page is my daughter, and I used drawings I made copying the design on the towel and the Cricut Cartridge Opposites Attract for the title. The Egg Hunt page used a Close to My Heart Stamp Set and old Provo Craft Paper. The dyeing the Eggs page was done on the same old PC paper and I used the George Cart to do the eggs. The last set of pages is the one I did last night- I used DoodleCharms for the bunnies and eggs and basket and Opposites Attract for the title.
Well we went down to Arizona on June 30th and arrived at Uncle Dan’s house around 4AM on the 1st July. What a long trip with the 4 kids. Thankfully my cousin Lance was coming with us and we were able have him help by driving so I could sit in back and pay attention to the kids. Evelyn had diarrhea on the way down and the boys couldn’t stop for bathroom breaks when we were at a bathroom nor at the same time as each other so Matt learned that he could ‘paint the countryside with his urine’. It was so unique of a trip. We had a blast once we got down there though. We got to visit Grandfather all of the days we were down there save one, and the kids got to pick stories for Grandfather to read to them and we videotaped it so we could see it again whenever we want to. All the kids loved the pool in Uncle Dan’s backyard. Andrew eventually became comfortable in the water and began to practice the crawl stroke.outputmvi_65871 outputmvi_6598Matt was a little daredevil jumping in by himself and asking the Vandermark boys to throw him and wait until he came back to the surface to help him. Evelyn was thrilled to be in the water as well since she has been forbidden when the boys are in swim lessons. She would jump to anyone who would catch her and dunk her own head to get ‘wet hair’.outputmvi_6599 outputmvi_6604 She is silly. Rora liked the water as well and the first time she was in she was splashing her arms and kicking her legs doing the doggy paddle almost by herself, but she got cold faster than the others so got to spend considerably less time in the pool. Besides visiting with Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Dan, Grandfather, and Lance, Uncle Jack and all of that Vandermark family came, also Aunt Pam and Daniel and we even got to see Grandfather’s brother Uncle Jerry and his wife Aunt Lupee and one of their sons Lee and his three children Ryan, Gracie, and Adell. It was a blast but I am sure that many people was trying for poor Aunt Marilyn. We are all glad she was willing to let us come, but also glad to be home again.
